Représente ta ligue: Toulouse can’t Figure out Reds

By: Sam | August 15th, 2007

voronin-toulouse.jpgThey knew it was going to be hard, they knew counters would be scarce and that making anything out of them would be hard, and they knew a single moment of fault could bring about disaster. And, they were right as rain! In Toulouse’s much-anticipated Champions League debut against none other than the five-time champs and current runners-up Liverpool, Voronin’s marker-less but nonetheless beautiful strike was the difference.

Carragher and Hyypia held Johan Elmander to only a few half-chances, which was clearly what kept TFC off the board. Not only him, but the team in general couldn’t find a way to really bother the big boys.

It could have been more, but Nicolas Douchez defended his net with honor, and the goal he conceded, well, forget it, nobody’s blaming him for that. Mind you, if Voronin had waited one tenth of a second to unleash his shot, it would have been blocked by the Toulouse defender, so that’s kind of sucky for them.

So now, Toulouse has the tall order of winning at Anfield, which is considerably harder than taking candy from a baby, or so I hear. A win is needed, and a high score is wanted. That’ll be on the 28th.

Have a look at what Brian at the Liverpool Offside has to say about the match here.

I’m having a hard time finding a copy of this match without going into the seedy underbelly of the internets. Imagine that, a thriller like this one. Oh well, I guess I’ll risk life and limb.

Toulouse spent much of the match in awe and lost the match before it even began. They treated the Liverpool players with too much respect. Disappointing from Toulouse, as I think they could have done better.

I know this is entirely off topic, but can someone, anyone tell me why it’s called Ligue 1 ORANGE as opposed to Ligue 1 AQUAMARINE or CHARTREUSE?

@ Greg: I used to think about that myself, but the thing is Orange is not the colour, but the phone company. It’s just the sponsor. Altough Ligue 1 Caca d’oie would sound pretty cool.
