Toulouse Draw Liverpool

By: Sam | August 3rd, 2007

liverpool-logo.gifWell, isn’t that just super? Toulouse, psyched as hell since earning their spot for the third round of UEFA Champions League qualifying, just got one hell of a figurative punch in the gut. Or in the liver, rather. Of all the sixteen sides possible, it’s going to be last season’s runner-up, Liverpool, who will stand in Téfécé’s way to get to the group stage. Not the winner of Levski Sofia and Tampere, not the winner of Besiktas and Sherrif, but Liverpool Football Club. Thanks, UEFA guy who did the draw.

Granted, it’s not impossible, Toulouse aren’t where they are by mere coincidence, but come on. It’s gonna be hella hard. The first leg (at the Stadium) is on the 14th of August, and the second (at Anfield) on the 29th.

Also, the second round of the UEFA Cup was announced as well. The only French club involved just yet is Lens, who, remember, beat Chernomorets in the Intertoto Cup earlier in the summer. They’re paired with Young Boys Berne, the same side Marseille was drawn with after beating a Ukrainan side in the Intertoto Cup. For the record, Marseille won that tie 3-3, on away goals.

This is awesome for Roma, because I believe Toulouse are keeping their valuation on Mathieu high partly to have him there for the CL. Now this means they’re almost definitely UEFA Cup bound before the market ends - enabling Roma to jump in before Aug 31. Good stuff, Platini. Good stuff.

Ey. No. Bad. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: At least wait until next summer. He’s got everything to lose by moving earlier.

Oh, and by the way: I’m not using MicroPolls for my Goal of the Week posts! I’ve found new polls! Better, polls! I don’t need you! Bahahaha.

You mean he does as a player or the team does? And I’ve read his contract is up after this year? I’ll trust your judgement, I haven’t seen him play much. Just enough to see his characteristics and such.

The player does. He’s never played this big before. If he moves now, he’ll warm the bench at Roma, he’s not ready for that yet. He is very good, but he will be better. Yeah, his contract is over after this year though.

No, Adam, I don’t. That said if it were to happen, it would be the biggest upset. And even though Toulouse isn’t shit, it’s still Liverpool Football Club.
