A bit too much justice

By: Sam | October 26th, 2006

fumigene.jpgThe Ligue de Football Professionel has never had a reputation of being generous. Apart from the fact that they are all die-hard Lyon fans, they never hesitate to lob suspensions and fines at unsuspecting players and clubs. Here’s a wrap-up of a rather punishment-filled French Football Discipline Heroes meeting.

38 man-games will be served on the sidelines by 28 different players in L1 and L2, including a 2-month suspension to PSG’s Pierre-Alain Frau.
FC Chamois Niortais coach Philippe Hinschberger has been suspended as well for disorderly conduct.

23, 250 € worth of fines for lighting pyrotechnic devices in one week is also noticeable.

First of all, the league has to understand that lighting flares during games is part of the sport. It’s a tradition, and whether the old 60 year old rich bureaucrats in Paris like it or not, fining fans all over the country for respecting customs in the stadiums (without hurting anyone or anything ridiculous of the sort I may add) will not make them stop.

A football game isn’t a football game without fans, so let them be.
