Absurdly Random Profile of the Week: Joseph-Désiré Job
By: Sam | October 18th, 2007
Name: Joseph-Désiré Job
Date of birth: 1 December 1977
Current club: OGC Nice
Position: Striker
Height: 178 cm
Weight: 70 kg
Shirt number: 11
Randomness of selection: Looked at the time of a song I was listening to on MySpace (Everyday Feeling by Mouthwash), added the numbers of the time (which were 9), selected the according club in the current league table (which was Nice) and picked the player who had the closest to 100 career Ligue 1 matches played (which was Job).
Born in Vénissieux, just outside Lyon, Job is of Cameroonian stock, which in turn merited him the dual citizenship that allowed him to play for the Lions Indomptables. Although pegged as a future French international when he was young, he opted for the Cameroon shirt, which turned out not to be such a bad idea, as he suited up for two World Cups, in 1998 and 2002.
For a currently run-of-the-mill striker in the French League, he has had quite an illustrious career. Starting out in the Lyon youth system, he then got granted the key to the first team, and spent a very decent two years there, scoring eleven goals in forty-one matches. In ‘99, he was transferred north to Lens, where he played well enough to attract Bryan Robson’s attention at Boro.
One three-million pound signature later, Job was enjoying life in the Premiership. Well, not quite enjoying. He scarcely played in the two first seasons with Middlesborough, and was loaned to Metz for half a season, where he was deemed good enough from his English bosses to keep within their ranks. He spent the next three campaigns with Boro, playing more regularly and scoring fourteen league goals in that span.
After, though, muscled out of the first team, he shot himself in the foot and went to Saudi Arabia to try his trade there. Didn’t work out. Making a comeback in Ligue 1 after a fruitless tryout with Watford FC, he did well to not suck with Sedan last year, even scoring eight goals but not managing to keep his side in the top flight. He started this season with CSSA, but jumped ship after three matches when the chance to play with Nice came up. And here we are.
He’s yet to score this season in league play, but scored the only goal for Nice against Troyes in the Round of 32 of the League Cup back in September. Here it is.

Hilarious way to select a player to profile!
Maybe it’s terribly biased of me, but I hope he does well for himself at Nice, him being a former OL player and all.
