Attention French Clubs Playing in Europe next Year: This is who you Need
By: Sam | June 17th, 2007
The three top finishers are going to the Champions League, the fourth is going to the UEFA Cup, the fifth to the Intertoto Cup, and sixth and seventh, who are conveniently the cup winners, finished just outside the Europe-bound top 5 and are also heading to the UEFA Cup. Here, I have taken all these seven clubs and picked one player from wherever that they need to get (realistically) to make me proud in Europe next year. Starting from the top.
LYON (1st, Champions League) needs JOHN PAINTSIL (West Ham). Well, they don’t need him, but I think it’d be cool to see him at Lyon. With Abidal leaving and me not being a fan of what they’ve got back there, I find he’d be a good fit. He only played five games with the Hammers and he’s looking for a transfer. If there’s a good price floating around, why not?
MARSEILLE (2nd, Champions League) needs EDMILSON (Barcelona). Desperately wanting a defender with CL experience, this could be who they need. What’s more, with Marca writing that he’s more than open to the transfer and Pape Diouf wanting to get his deals done as early as possible, it just may happen in the next week or two. Rodriguez and him could work well together, with Zubar having a bit of a learning year.
TOULOUSE (3rd, Champions League qualifying) needs EMERSE FAÉ (Nantes). Why? He’s too good to play in Ligue 2. An international with Côte d’Ivoire, he’s the guy Téfécé need to bolster their so-so midfield. Fabinho, Mansaré and Mathieu aren’t nearly enough to make a splash.
RENNES (4th, UEFA Cup) needs ÉRIC CUBILIER (Nantes). Once again, a guy of experience is going to have to move to avoid playing in the second division. And with Melchiot leaving, he’d be a very reasonable full-back to approach and would work well with the likes of Mensah and Edman.
LENS (5th, Intertoto Cup) needs MAMADOU SAMASSA (Le Mans). Their defense is too weak, the only big names being Demont and Hilton. This young man, newly appointed youth international, has had a remarkable season with MUC, and could benefit from this transfer.
BORDEAUX (6th, won Coupe de la Ligue, UEFA Cup) needs SERGE GAKPÉ (Monaco). Monaco already has Menez, they can shed a youth international, especially one that’s been itching to leave. And with Bordeaux being the most boring team to watch in the history of the world, they need a young buck like Gakpé.
SOCHAUX (7th, won Coupe de France, UEFA Cup) needs DAVID HELLEBUYCK (PSG). After moving to the capital and having a crap season, he’s going to leave, and people are looking at Nice. I say look to Sochaux, they need a good midfielder to replace Karim Ziani, who is poised to leave soon.
There you have it. Who do you think they should get?

Lyon – They have belhadji and apparently a huge rumor has been floating around this weekend that Abidal was so pissed at Barcelona’s offer that he just told them to stop bidding. Which would actually give them two top left backs. That scares me to no end.
Marseille – If only the gods could hear you. Edmilson is still considered with the upmost respect by french specialists. he was a gentleman and I would love him with us.
Toulouse – I haven’t even thought of this. This is genius on many levels. But I fear some english clubs will scoop him up before Toulouse focuses on something other than the “We Must Keep Elmander(or Ebondo or Emana)” campaign(s).
Rennes – needs Francois Pinault to stop kissing Salma hayek and put some money in the club. He has billions to throw away. Let’s buy some players.
Lens – I think Guy Roux will do some amazing stuff on this one. But if I had one suggestion to make, it would be to buy marc Planus before Lyon buys him next year. Plus Samassa, Courtadeur, douillard baal and loriot are the future of the club and they won’t be selling them if they are smart. But Lens may get Odemwingie.
Bordeaux – will need much more than GAkpé. Mavuba and Faubert want to leave, chamakh as well. It will take all of Laurent Blanc’s aura to keep those players.
SOCHAUX – apparently, Dhorasso will replace Ziani.

Yeah, that’s what everyone says about Sochaux, but just like every person in a sane state of mind, I hate Dhorasoo.

Dhorasoo is a good player but a jackass. He talks to damn much and should spend more time thinking about the ball at his feet. But I do think he’s a good player (though on the old side, but experience is good, especially for European competition.
Ah, Edmi. I would feel like a girlfriend whose ex-boyfriend was hooking up with my arch enemy if he went to Marseille. But I think he has a lot to offer despite being on the outs with Barca. He’s a very chill, level headed guy, the perfect counterpoint to Cana.
Speaking of ex-boyfriends, is Marseille still interested in Ludo? If OM got both Ludo and Edmi…holy shit. Then I’d be scared for the title next year.
Also, I’m surprised Nantes hasn’t turned into a garage sale yet. They still have a few good players on the team, most of whom don’t want to spend a year (probably more) in L2.

I think the fact that everybody at nantes went on vacation before the sale has a lot to do with the relative calm that is reigning over there. The only one that postponed his holidays to make sure he wouldn’t be there next year is Dimitri Payet. Now comes july 2nd, all hell will break lose. I just can’t imagine Signorino playing in L2.
Inara, if we get Ludo Giuly and Edmilson, keep Cissé and get Sablé and Cheyrou, I won’t need any birthday or Chrstmas present for the next two years. I’ll be set. But I don’t want to jinx anything

Well there you have it, Dhorasoo won’t be playing with Sochaux, Plessis got tired of him. Wow, totally unexpected.
Et MadSear voila que Ziani a trouvé un accord avec l’OM et Cheyrou s’annonce bien aussi…. Je la sens bien la LDC mon gars…Posted from
