Bordeaux Wants 15 mil for Faubert, Sam Laughs Heartily
By: Sam | June 25th, 2007
Okay, listen up. First of all, everyone knows Julien Faubert is on his way out of Bordeaux, everyone also knows he wants to try something abroad. What’s more is that everyone having an IQ of over 12 will not pay 15 million euros for the 23-year old attacking midfielder. Glasgow Rangers, among the clubs keen on luring the mono-capped Bleu, offered a reasonable 8 million to Bordeaux a few weeks ago, but president Jean-Louis Triaud was not amused, stating that no serious talks had been going on between the two parties, and that he’d need a very good offer (read: ridiculous offer) to let his gem go. More on this will come when Triaud finally says “Oh, okay, ten.”.
After receiving two succesive slaps in da face from Julien Sablé (now of Lens) and Valdo (now of Espanyol), it looks like Marseille are back on track to fill the Ribéry hole, with Sochaux’s excellent attacking midfielder Karim Ziani. The Algerian international, who had cried far and wide that he was playing for Marseille next season no matter what, is expected to sign a multi-year, 8 million-euro contract tomorrow or so. Looks like a good catch for Marseille, who were looking at a 12 million euro tag last week.
Nicolae Dica, the revelation of last year’s Champions League with Steaua Bucarest, has attracted moderately-big European clubs like a popsicle does flies. But according to a Romanian newspaper, it’s RC Lens that are going to win the lottery, signing the player to their Intertoto Cup-bound side for 5 million euros. Swell, if you ask me.
As much as Celtic fans are keen on giggling every time Rod Fanni scores, it looks as if the very solid Nice defender will be packing his stuff and going to a place where no one will make fun of his name. That’s right, it’s AS “No friends” Monaco are close to signing the center-back, for approximately 3 million euros.
That’s the rumour mill for today. In other news, play time is over for many Ligue 1 teams. It seems the season ended a few days ago, but twelve teams are back to training effective today. That’s right, fifteen of the twenty contenders begin preparations today and tomorrow. Lyon, on the other hand, start on July 2nd. Jeez, talk about arrogance.

I was hoping to see Dica at Lille. I like him a lot as a player and think L1 will be a step up for him.
As for Bordeaux, I think it’s clear that Aulas and Diouf have contributed to this, and I’m glad, to be honest. If foreign clubs are going to come to France and take a club’s best player, they should have to pay. Faubert himself might only be worth 8m, but Bordeaux will not only lose a player, they’ll lose someone who is familiar with the team and has experience, and international player.
So Rangers are not just paying for Faubert but what his loss entails - Bordeaux finding his replacement in the depths of France’s lower leagues, spending two years training him and making him into a quality player, until he too gets purchased.
I’m of the opinion that as long as France is pillaged by outsiders, then France should pillage their pockets. Believe it or not, but I am also for other French clubs charging Lyon high prices too, and I won’t cry one bit of PSG and Nice overcharge us for Armand and Ederson.

when we all fall down who will take the blame?
