Djibril Cissé: My mother loves me, so shut up
By: Sam | April 11th, 2007
As the common phrase goes, only two things in this world are certain: death and taxes. The way I see it, two things in this world are certain: death and French people booing Djibril Cissé. Hey, I like to boo an underachieving player just as much as the next guy. But when a mother’s grief is called into question, that’s a whole nother story. Since returning from his injury months ago for Marseille, a lack of goals, an abundance of offsides and the occasional (say, once every three minutes) shot wide have brought OM fans to the peak of their patience, and beyond. The blond (hold on, let me check… yep, still blond) and lanky striker who broke his leg in a friendly against China days before the World Cup last summer has only scored four Ligue 1 goals this season, unsatisfactory for the supporters down in the south of the country.
He, however, says he ignores them. What bothers him about the name-calling and whistle treatment he gets recently, is the fact that it confuses and saddens his mother, who just wants her son to work hard and make her proud.
Said Cissé (translated from French): I don’t care about the insults, but the boos I get are hard for mine, my family, and especially my mother. You know, when I have my mom on the phone and she’s crying because she can’t figure out why people are beaking off at her son, well, it hurts me. I can’t stand that. I’m suffering because she’s suffering. She doesn’t deserve that. Yeah, I’m making efforts not to lose my cool, I’m trying to keep my anger within me.
If I can permit myself to be serious for a moment, I must say I respect what Djib is saying. I don’t know his mother, but I can tell that it must be hard for her (when I picture her, she’s like Karras’ mother in The Exorcist, you know, all “Why? Why, Djibril?”) whether she follows football or not. Your thoughts?

Hey, Cisse cause me pain in MY maternal area too!!
(But not so much that I don’t want to see him replaced on the NT by Benzema.)

Cisse’s wife Judith is from my hometown in Wales, and used to go to my school. She used to bully my kid sister! When he was still at Liverpool, she’s frequently make the 90 minute drive back in her flashy hummer. All true.

My heart goes out to him, honestly. As a Liverpool fan, he frustrates the hell out of me with some major misses but recovering from two serious injuries and to get booed is just bang right out of order from the fans.
I feel bad for him and I don’t think we’ll EVER recoup that 14mil we spent on him…

Remember three months ago when Marseille were shouting that they were going to fight to keep Cisse (and Ribery) at all costs?
Now Pape Diouf is keeping quiet on whether they’ll make Cisse’s loan permanent while Ribery gets to leave.
I don’t think Cisse will ever regain that form he had at Auxerre.

Latest rumor, of course, is that Cisse is coming to MLS. Hey, people would go every week just to see his new hairstyle!
