Feel-good story of the year: Jamel Debbouze playing alongside Zidane
By: Sam | March 20th, 2007Okay, so this isn’t a Ligue 1-related article, but it’s just too funny to pass up. Those who know their French pop culture will know Jamel Debbouze, the Morocco-French little tiny thing of a comedian/actor, who constantly cracks up the country with his never-gets-old jokes and mustard gas-like speech. Debbouze, who also lacks a good right hand due to a malformation, was on the Friends of Zidane side to play against Ronaldo’s posse in Sunday’s Match Against Poverty in Marseille. Coming on as a 40th-minute substitute, he had about seven dozen opportunities before putting his goal home. And what a goal it was too, just barely onside. Have a look, even though you won’t understand the commentary, you’ll still enjoy it.

This was adorable. I think I want to adopt him, too.

Thanks for the welcoming parade, Sam. Anyone else notice the guy’s hand parked firmly in his shorts the entire time? Get him a pair of those silly gloves that Chimbonda and Henry wear when it goes below 60 degrees.

Greg, the guy can’t wear gloves because HIS HAND IS MALFORMED!! What an unbelievable callous comment. He goes thru LIFE carrying his hand in his pocket! If you’d read Sam’s entire entry, you’d know that.
Jamel is a well known comic in France and he’s a huge fan of Zidane’s. They’re buddies. Jamel has done various comic segments with Zizou. He’s always joking around with zizou. There’s a hilarious moment before this match when Jamel interviews Zidane. Jamel asks Zidane what the match is for, Zidane starts explaining the the aim of the Match Against Poverty and then Jamel suddenly says “Zizou I love you I want to kiss you” and starts getting closer. Zidane cracks up and pushes him away. Also, zizou did his wonderful roulette in this match. You can see these clips here:

Holy crap, I DO need to read entire articles… Apologies to Jamel. However, continued relentless shame for the likes of Chimbonda and Henry.
