Florent Malouda is Player Of The Year, Entire Population of France Says “Well, duh”
By: Sam | May 21st, 2007
There you have it folks, there is no surprise as to who won the UNFP (Union Nationale des Footballeurs professionels) trophy for player of the year. The recipient is none other than Lyon and France winger Florent Malouda. What’s there to say about this young man? 26 years old, he had a great season and was one of the few Lyon players who didn’t really have a sucky streak throughout the season. A well-deserved honour to say the least, and I’m sure Inara will have something to say about this later.
The honour of the best young talent was given to Marseille’s Samir Nasri, the (no, I mean it) Next Zidane, and let me tell you, it was deserved. That said, it if it was awarded to anyone else, there would have been a riot.
Now, after winning best keeper 5 years in a row, you’d think Greg Coupet would be ready to leave it to someone else. He did. Winning was 32-year old Sochaux keeper Teddy Richert, who in past years was always, say fourth-best, but this year was simply magnificent.
Now, here is your 2006-2007 all-star team.
Richert (Sochaux)
Sagna (Auxerre) Cris (Lyon) Hilton (Lens) Abidal (Lyon)
Keita (Lens) Nasri (Marseille) Keita (Lille) Malouda (Lyon)
Elmander (Toulouse) Savidan (Valenciennes)
It’s worth noting that Caen striker Yoan Gouffran was awarded the trophy for best player in Ligue 2 after an impressive season (he’s only 20) that will probably see his club promoted, but it’s not 100% sure.
Gérard Houllier was also designated as best coach. Will this have an impact on his staying/going?

He had a great year … I just hate predictable awards. The real “no duh”, though, is Best Young Player for Nasri. Kid is scary, scary good.

Nasri is scarey good, I want him on Lyon, the magnificent young trio at it again. Gouffran is really good too, Arsenal is linked with him, and between him and Briand, the U-21 title is coming to France this summer, they are both bagging goals left and right.
Bakari Sagna had a good season? He cant defend for shit and surely Kaboul or Faty played better then Hilton, no relation to Paris of course.Posted from

I was surprised that Malouda one because I think his form has been just as patchy as the rest of Lyon’s team. So I think his win is highly debatable. But as you said, obvious. When he was on song, he was magnificent.
Same thing with Richert. I think his year has been alright, but I don’t think he was the best at Ligue 1. But he did win Sochaux their French Cup, which might have been a deciding factor.
I also think Sebastian Squillaci should have been on the team type instead of Cris, but that’s just me.
And Nasri…right on.

Corey: Marseille will never ever allow Nasri to come to Lyon (and I doubt he would want to either if he has suitors like Real and Inter linked with him). I’d love to see Benzema and Nasri together, but I think we might have to wait for them on the NT or if they end up at Milan a few years down the road.

Oh, if you ask which “him” I’m referring to: EITHER ONE! OR BOTH!
