Forget Abidal, Lyon’s Going for Fabio Grosso Now

By: Sam | July 3rd, 2007

fabio-grosso.jpgI’m back from the dead, aka from that dreadful Wordpress bug that kept me out of action for a few days, but it’s all better now. Let’s get down to business! With Eric Abidal a blaugrana for sure, you knew Jean-Michel Aulas wouldn’t sit around playing jacks with his staff. According to a pretty reliable source, Italian international full-back Fabio Grosso could be on his way to Lyon next season to replace Abidal.

The source? His agent. Talking to Radio Radio the other day, he stated that (translated from Italian) “Contacts with the French club have been laid down, and now that Abidal has left them, serious talks could be in the making. Next week will be decisive. It’ll either be Olympique Lyonnais or Inter Milan.

Straight up! Then again, with Lyon courting PSG’s Sylvain Armand, this might turn into the same dilemma Marseille had with Cheyrou and Sablé.

Grosso to Lyon? That’ll for sure help Ligue 1’s reputation, and one thing’s for sure, Lyon do have to get cracking with regards to replacing Abidal and Malouda. To be continued, I’m sure…

Apparently, both Grosso and Armand have agreed to personal terms with the club, but while Inter will let Grosso go, PSG wants to keep Armand.

I think Grosso is more experienced and better offensively, but Armand offers more defensively. I’m not happy with either, but it’s not like Lyon are in a position to choose!

If anything, Grosso’s offensive contributions are similar to Abidal’s. As for Armand, he’s still known to pop a few strikes here and there, but yeah, he’s a defender’s defender. Who would you like Lyon to sign though, if it’s not one of those two?
