France in the Champs League - Meh, I guess

Some not bad results, but we could’ve done better…
REAL MADRID 2-2 LYON
What a game! Lyon guarantees the first place in the group after a wild finish in Santiago Bernabeu. Lyon got the ball rolling in the early stages when Carew finished a bruising run through the heart of the Real defense. Malouda doubled the score on a fantastically placed Juninho free kick half an hour in. Former Lyon stalwart Mahmadou Diarra pulled one back on a powerful header a few minutes later. And after many good chances, Van Nistelrooy scored the easiest goal imaginable when he tapped in a rebound off Coupet’s post. The said keeper preserved the win five minutes later on Van Nistelrooy’s penalty.
LILLE 2-2 ANDERLECHT
Lille played strongly for the better part of the match and were rewarded with two well-deserved goals, one by Odemwingie who did a great job of preserving the ball in play and who concluded on a nice pass and an easy finish early on. Mpenza drew even half an hour later when he lucked out after Sylva touched the ball onto his post and in. Fauvergue put Lille ahead once again on a bizzare play that ended in a sublime strike. Only to have Mpenza break Lille’s hearts and put them in an awkward position to progress.
BORDEAUX 3-1 GALATASARAY
A win that guarantees Bordeaux a place in the UEFA Cup round of 32. Never mind the big score, Bordeaux didn’t play that well a game, all three goals came through laughable defensive errors by the Turks. Good finishes perhaps for Alonso, Laslandes and Faubert, but the visitors were clearly to blame. Whatever.
