Goal of the Week Competition: Round 3

By: Sam | August 16th, 2007

Boy oh boy, goal-avid readers, I certainly did have a tough time deciding which goals to nominate this week, there were quite a few scored, more than in last week’s round which Valter Birsa of Sochaux happily won with his powerful volley. I may post some honourable mentions later on, but for now, here are the three final candidates, in order of height:

KEVIN GAMEIRO (Strasbourg) made a remarkable 60-yard run and finished it just as nicely against Auxerre.

STEVE SAVIDAN (Valenciennes) blasted his second of the match into the top left corner of Carrasso’s net quite nicely.

DAVID BELLION (Bordeaux) somehow got the idea to try this ridiculous lob while almost sitting down. And it worked.

Final results

Kevin Gameiro 45%

Steve Savidan 9%

David Bellion 45%

Kevin Gamiero is my pick for the young break out striker of the season. I like his pace and movement off the ball, and he has been fairly clinical since strasbourg were last up in the top flight 2 years ago, part of an excellent generation from the youth team that included Ricardo Faty, and Sidi Yaya Keita. Nice goal too, great compsure, got my vote.

Je pense que le but de Bellion est le meilleur.
