Goal of the Week: Round 12

By: Thomas | November 1st, 2009

Congrats to last weeks winner Asamoah Gyan, who narrowly beat out Nene.

Moussa Sissoko (Toulouse), 27th minute, against Steve Mandanda

(first goal)
This spectacular long range effort from Sissoko silenced the Velodrome and bring his tally up to five league goals.

Yohan Cabaye (Lille), 27th minute (looking like a great minute), against Ronan Le Crom

(first goal)
Nice little one-two followed by a chest trap and volley, reminds me of this goal, although not quite as nice.

Gervinho (Lille), 90th minute, against Ronan Le Crom

(second goal)
In Gervinho’s second straight appearance in the poll, he goes on a miraculous dribbling rampage in which he completely dismantles the Grenoble defense before firing in from point blank range.

Fahid Ben Khalfallah (Valenciennes), 78th minute, against Nicolas Douchez (who is apparently the best player in Ligue 1)

(second goal)
Fahid Ben Khalfallah continued his inspired performance (he assisted the first goal) by dribbling from midfield into the center of the pitch and hitting a long, outside curving shot into the corner of Douchez’s net.

Brandao (Marseille), 75th minute, against Olivier Blondel

Brandao’s half-bike to tie up the game for OM barely makes the top 5, Pujol’s goal would have been here if it had actually crossed the line.

So, time to vote…

Where is Chantome’s lob????????? It was definitely better than the Brandao goal! Come on, I thought you were a PSG fan.

@Rama: I can’t believe I forgot that, I was planning to have it there, and it just slipped my mind.

@kabir: Yeah, but on Ben Khalfallah’s goal the defense was unprepared because I assume they expected the game to stop for Sanchez to get treatment.

I was going to add Chantome’s goal, but I honestly can’t find it ANYWHERE on the internet. I’m now thoroughly sick of trolling through google videos anyway.

Sissoko generated super human power to fire that shot past Mandanda. His has to be the best individual effort. Cabaye’s goal was excellent 1-2 with Balmont and would get my second vote.

I don’t agree Aditya scoring from a set piece like that is easier than roaming midfield searching for a little opening and scoring in a tight corner.
