Goals of the season: 1) Ilan, Saint-Étienne

February 25, 2007.
Parc des Princes, Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
44th minute, vs PSG.
Brazilian midfielder Araujo Ilan scored the second goal for ASSE that night late in the first half, his ninth of the season. Pascal Feindouno streaked down the left side and delivered a cross to striker Batéfimbi Gomis. The latter man touched the ball perfectly back to Ilan, who took a tricky touch, with his back to the net, and finally, acrobatically lept and struck the ball perfectly into Micka Landreau’s corner, a perfectly executed bicycle kick to earn pretty much everyone’s vote for Goal of the Year.
Also, not the colour man’s hilariously juvenile sound effects. “Wooooooo!” “Pow!” “Pfffshshshshhh!”

That is, as the announcer says, absolutely exceptional. The “Pooowwww” is also maybe my favorite thing ever. Great, great goal.

Fantastic! I made strange noises too when I saw it. :)
