Hi, I’m Sam, Lyon wins, blah blah blah

om-lyon2.jpgHi offsideateers, welcome to my branch of the wonderful website that is The Offside. The French Ligue 1, otherwise known as the race to second place, is well underway, and this here blog will, as you just may have guessed, follow this stupedously fantastic adventure.

So anyway, you may know last sunday Olympique Lyonnais came into Marseille for what was to be a clash of the titans, a clash at the summit, a clash of european contenders, all that. But the thing is, it wasn’t.

Lyon blew Olympique de Marseille clear out of the water, by the pretty score of 4-1. Two goals by Juninho were a nice touch, and Marseille were stunned. Lots (most?) of french journalists, including myself, thought OM were skilled enough to beat Lyon, especially when the latter team was without international keeper Gregory Coupet, but nope.

Lyon is now 8 points in front of second-place Marseille after 10 matchdays. Behind them are surprise contenders AS-Nancy Lorraine and Toulouse FC.
