It’s Been a Year, Already? / Reader Feedback / Advertising!
By: Sam | October 29th, 2007
Oh my, I almost forgot! This week marks the one-year anniversary of my stay at the France Offside! It was on October 24, 2006 that I posted an article entitled “Hi, I’m Sam, Lyon Wins, Blah Blah Blah“. Boy, do I remember those early days. When I started, there was the ManU, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal Offsides, as well as DC United. Now we’re up to about 75, I think.
This may be a good time for me to let you all know a little more about me, cuz I know you’re interested. I’m a 16-year old vegetarian punk and I live in Edmonton, Alberta, with my folks and two of three brothers. I play community league soccer for the Woodcroft Warriors (a force to be reckoned with) and have been a soccer fan since a young age, but I was never really good at it, so now I write about it, ref it, and watch it. Fitting. My free time is divided between playing minesweeper, blogging, playing with my wicked-ass band The Afflictions, playing with my dog or hanging out with friends.
I hate high school.
I support Spurs, Toronto FC and Joe Public (the club that OWNS Trinidadian football).
Besides all of this auto-biographical chit chat, I am also looking for some feedback. Is there anything on the blog that you like better than other, is there something I can do better about? Please be honest, I’m really insecure (come on man, I’m a teenager!) and I must know what my readers want to read. Thanks!
Also, be sure to get your Bloody and Golden fix with Jay at the Lens Offside!
Où s’y trouve Lens, s’y trouve Lille. I know a good one-stop Dogues-site, and it’s none other than Julien’s Lille Offside.
You say Lyon, I say Inara! Insight in outta-sight stuff on Inara’s Lyon Offside!
Papin! Weah! Ribéry! Magnusson! Great name’s of OM’s modern history. And yes, I’m referring to the passionate prose that can be found on Magnusson’s Marseille Offside.
He doesn’t have a beret nor does he play the accordion below the Eiffel Tower, but he does have a kick-ass PSG blog, and that would be Come at the Paris Saint-Germain Offside.
Who needs Kallström and Isakson when you’ve got a rippin’ good blog to read? The answer is no one that goes to Shazback’s Rennes Offside.

Happy anniversary, Sam! You’ve done a great job on this blog. It’s not easy covering the French league, especially the less popular ones like Nancy and Le Mans, but you do a great job of it. The only improvement I can think of is to post more often. Like every day twice a day.
It’s crazy to think about how much this site has grown. I joined in March, and it had maybe 20 or so blogs on it. Now the site is just huge!

Happy Anniversary, brother-in-blog. We were a small community back then, weren’t we? Remember back to when there was NOBODY but you and me writing on French football in English? It used to be that everything I wrote (with the exception of Zidane and Henry stuff) would hit the google top ten within three days. Fun times. But these are too. It’s good to see the growth.
Keep up the excellent work! (And Allez les Bleus!)

Happy Anniversary Sam!
And since you asked for it, here’s my wishlist for the next 12 months:1) I only started following Ligue 1 because of the Offside and the Offside is also my main source for Ligue 1 updates. I know fairly little about all the great things that happened in the 500 years of Ligue 1 history prior to last season. So if you feel like teaching some history lessons from time to time then do so.
2) I also know little about French football culture. I would like to learn more about that topic too.Posted from

Happy 1 Year Sam! Thanks to you and your posts, as well as the other Ligue 1 bloggers you have helped to attract, I am at least a little less ignorant about the French game than I was last year. Cheers.

Aw gee thanks guys! Take that world, my colleagues are better than your colleagues.
- Inara: Yes, I am planning to put out at the VERY LEAST one article per day. I’m gonna be consistent, I hope.
-Laurie: Word! I remember when World Cup blog was pretty much France and Ecuador. FRENCH LEAGUE/FRENCH TEAM UNITY!
-Jan: Thanks dude, and yes, I’m devising interesting ways to bring you Ligue 1 anectodes of all eras.
Ian: Oh, take your biased Premier League propaganda out of here. Just kidding man, thanks and long live the podcasts!Posted from

Sam - I’ll have you know I only spread Scottish propaganda. We like the English even less than you do.
