League Cup Round of 16 All Set Up
By: Sam | October 1st, 2007
With all the buzz surrounding tomorrow and Wednesday’s Champions League matches featuring Lyon-Rangers and Liverpool-Marseille, not many people took the time to check out what went down at France Televisions headquarters in Paris, where the draw for the Last 16 of the Coupe de la Ligue was taking place. After LFP president Frédéric Thiriez went on a rant about how great the whole concept was, the thirteen Ligue 1 and the three Ligue 2 sides found out about the matchups. Remember, this competition has a structured-knockout format, with both sides of the graph getting smaller until both remaining teams meet in the final.
There’s a lack of really interesting matches, with the exceptions of Lens-Monaco and Rennes-Valenciennes. Whatever. Here are all of them:
Group A:
Niort-Le Mans
Caen-Lyon
Group B:
Monaco-Lens
Nancy-Amiens
Group C:
Auxerre-Nice
Marseille-Metz
Group D:
Rennes-Valenciennes
PSG-Montpellier
