Ligue 1: Matchday 13 (Sunday only)
By: Sarah | November 8th, 2009
Sorry for the late previews this week. My boyfriend found out that he passed the NY State Bar this week so the past few days have been a blur of celebrations and hangovers. But, now on to the action we can look forward to this afternoon.

Lille vs. Girondins de Bordeaux
Toulouse vs. Stade Rennais
Olympique Lyonnais vs. Olympique de Marseille
Lille vs. Bordeaux
Everything seems to be going right for Bordeaux at the moment. They are currently siting on top of the league table, they pulled off an amazing win this week in Europe over Bayern Munich and booked their place in the final 16 of the Champions League. Only Henrique is missing from Laurent Blanc’s panel.
Unfortunately, Lille hasn’t had the same experience– having conceded a late goal in the Europa League to Genoa to lose 3-2. The good news for Lille is that the team didn’t utilize their full repertoire of resources– so look for Rio Mavuba and Eden Hazard, who were being saved for Sunday’s big game, to make an immediate impact.
Make sure to check out the The Offside-Bordeaux for their preview.
Toulouse vs. Rennais
Casanova has a terrible poker face– considering the team he fielded in Europe this week, he made it clear where his priorities are this season. Toulouse may have lost this week against Shakhtar Donetsk, but they can find comfort in the fact that the Toulouse team that lost this week in Europe were largely fringe players.
Sunday’s game against Rennes will be treated far more seriously. Toulouse have been successful in the league thus far, having won two of their last three games and managing to get a draw at the Velodrome last weekend. If they want to continue their streak, they will have to do it without Yohann Pele (suspension). Mauro Cetto is also unavailable through injury.
Rennes is also short-staffed with both Jerome Leroy and Moussa Sow out. Rennes’ season has been good thus far– with the exception of their 3-0 loss to Valenciennes last weekend.
Lyon vs. Marseille

This has been a great day in terms of matches. All three of them are mouthwatering.
That was a spectacular win for Lille. Gervinho’s got to be the best dribbler in the league, as evidenced by his setup of the Cabaye goal.

Yah– I definitely didn’t see that Lille performance coming…great for them though. It certainly makes things more exciting.

OL vs. OM will probably end up being a really boring game. They tend to be low-scoring affairs at the Gerland, with both teams being really cautious. For some odd reason, I always feel like the games at the Velo are faster-paced. I don’t know if it’s because the two teams feel more pressured at the Gerland or because OL play better away from home while OM play better at home, but OM vs. OL tends to be a more interesting game.
It’s also unfortunate that non-French media still continue to ignore L1. For a match this huge (it’s a Champions League match, really) that has potential title ramifications, it’s not getting much coverage outside the hexagon.
At least the game will be live on Setanta. Thank goodness for small favors.
