Man U and Roma? Oh, it’s on
By: Sam | December 16th, 2006
I was hoping for something along the lines of Lyon-Barca or Lyon-Inter, but I got AS Roma instead. Not bad. I wanted Manchester United, and I got it.
The former match will be a good one (understatement) with the likes of Totti, De Rossi and Pizzaro having a go at Juninho, Malouda and Fred. Good contest with lots of excitement, no doubt, but Lyon for sure. Sorry Martha.
Now. Who can forget Acimovic’s 38th-minute goal last year to see Lille over ManU 1-0? Not me. That’s what makes this matchup that more delicious. The magic of Bodmer, Odemwingie and Keita (you laugh, but you’ll see, they were lethal in the group stage) up against some guys named Rooney, Ronaldo and Saha. As much as I’d like to bet on Lille, I gotta go pick the bad guys, but not without a fight.
UEFA Cup, anyone? Lens were tagged with Panatinaikos, who aren’t particularly fond of France of late, absorbing a 4-0 loss to PSG in the last matchday. They did win the group, however. Close, but I’ll say Pana.
PSG drew AEK Athens, the little engine that almost could, who finished behind LOSC in the UCL group stage. Man, it’s going to be close, but I’m just not liking PSG these days (who is?). AEK have lost the hope of playing the final at home, but they’re a good side.
Nancy, the revelation of the round-robin, drew Shaktar Donetsk. Can you say ‘piece of cake’? Sure, they were in the Champions League, but Nancy are as dominant as ever, and the Ukranians weren’t in the toughest group, let’s not forget. Nancy will win.
