Matchday 30: Oh God! Could it be? Paris-SG isn’t retarded anymore!
By: Sam | April 2nd, 2007
Yes folks, it’s true. Get this: Paris Saint-Germain is no longer in the relegation zone! After a strong win over second-place Lens, PSG are back in the, well, let’s call it “safe” top 17. With Lyon and Bordeaux not playing after their League Cup final on Saturday, the spotlights were on Lens and Paris, late on Sunday.
Not only is PSG finally able to breathe, but Lens, whose number two spot was seemingly a sure thing weeks ago, is now only three points clear of Sochaux and Toulouse, third and fourth respectively. Amara Diané gave his side the advantage after only two minutes, and early on it looked as though Paris would win in Lens for the first time in ten years. Dindane, dependable as you like, equalized on 51 minutes to plunge the Parisians into dispair. With twenty minutes left in the match, however, the defender Sylvain Armand came up big and acrobatically swept home the much-needed winner for Paris Saint-Germain. They are now seventeenth, one point in front of Sedan and one behind Nice.
At the top, Sochaux continued their surprising stellar play and moved to third place, with a win over Troyes on the road. Romain Pitau scored the only goal in that match.
Lille have only won once in the last eleven games, surprisingly shitty for them. They managed to lose two-nil to Valenciennes at home on the weekend, with goals in the second half from Doumeng and Hassli. Regardless, both keepers had great games. Regardless of that, Lille is now in sixth place. They’ve got to get their move on!
Who else has to get their move on? Marseille, that’s who. They lost at home against Lorient, and now are in dire need of a win to get back into the middle of things. Goals from Le Pen and Saïfi proved too much for the flat-footed ciel et blanc, who got a goal back from Cissé from the spot.
Lyon and Bordeaux will play Rennes and Nancy, respectively on April 18 to make up for this weekend.
Other scores: Le Mans 2-2 Auxerre; Nice 1-1 Monaco; Toulouse 1-0 Saint-Étienne; Nantes 0-1 Sedan
