Meet Teddy Richert
By: Sam | August 16th, 2007
Raymond Domenech announced his squad for the upcoming Bleus friendly against Slovakia earlier today. Out of the 35 players invited, only one was new. He’s a goalkeeper, he plays for Sochaux, and he goes by the name of Teddy Richert.
You probably don’t know him. He doesn’t play for a high-profile club, hasn’t played a European fixture since early 2005, and he obviously doesn’t have any caps (yet) even though he’s 32 years old. But if you ask me, he just may be one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now. The most underrated one, bar none. His performance against Lille this week prompted me to enlighten you about the man.
He was a big part of Sochaux’s Coupe de France-winning team last year, making key saves against Marseille in the final to win on penalties. He was voted best goalkeeper by UNFP (Union nationale des footballeurs professionels) last season, beating out Mickaël Landreau, Grégory Coupet and Ulrich Ramé. And despite all this, he’s stayed true to the club he’s been at since 2001, and has never made plans to leave.
You’ll be able to catch him in the UEFA Cup this year, and if he plays his cards right, for the national team.
Here’s a little sample of what he can do. Note the umpteen saves on Pauleta and Saint-Étienne. Watch the whole thing, I guarantee you you won’t be disappointed.

that was a nice compilation. it seemed like his d-line let him down time after time, but he always was in the perfect position. last thing i heard, lyon were looking for a temporary replacement during coupet’s injury. if they havent asked about the services of Mr. Richert, they need to do that ASAP

if I was building a team from scratch, I think he would be my first purchase.
