Okay, but still

I recently ranted against the stupid stadium regulations as to “pyrotechnic devices” and how they in no way intice supporters to cut back, but an incident happened at Nice-Marseille last Sunday that makes me reconsider.
At Nice’s Stade du Ray, a homemade mini-bomb was thrown from the stands and struck volunteer firefighter Anthony Roko in the hand, causing the bomb to explode and crudely disfigure the 20-year old’s hand, as well as cause him to lose three fingers.
The league and both clubs involved were quick to apologize profusely and condemn this stupid act, and at this time it is believed that Marseille’s supporters are responsible. This incident goes against the defending that I had written to the cause of flares, but I stand my case. With all due respect to Mr. Roko, we cannot stop some people’s stupidity. This was not even a flare, it was a bomb. The security personnel at the stadiums have to protect the spectators, but not prohibit them from having fun.
That being said, security will no doubt be tighter and fines will climb, but the bureaucrats have the final say.
