Paris Saint-Germain: Frustration, Confusion and A Horrible Coach
By: Sam | November 23rd, 2006
Those are the three things going on these days in the French capital. The second-richest club in the country, who have a very decent array of talent at every position, are currently sitting at 14th in Ligue 1, and could’ve wished for a better start in the UEFA Cup. Hence the frustration.
The supporters never seem to be aware of anything, the president is going on and off about how the club is great but isn’t at the moment, and the media isn’t doing a great job of interpreting the problems at hand of late with the club. Hence the confusion.
Position switches that no one understands, results caused by missed set plays, the club’s worst start in 38 years, a whole nation whining for a good sacking, an ugly moustache, hence why Paris SG has a horrible coach in Guy Lacombe.
www.lequipe.fr read the headline “PARIS TOUCHES THE BOTTOM” today after their dismal 4-2 loss at home against Hapoel Tel-Aviv. Once again, the starting eleven raised eyebrows before kick-off. Midfielder Edouard Cissé was starting on defense. Paulo Cesar, who has been failing everywhere all season, was placed up front. And inexperienced youngsters Mulumbu and Dramé were starting. After a grand total of six minutes, the Israeli side was up by two goals. Paris got a pair back within half an hour, but sank down gradually and finally gave up two more.
PSG’s president Alain “Captain Stubborn” Cayzac, who stands by his manager, keeps up the pace of reassuring supporters they have nothing to fear. But in a time when his own players are turning against him, you’ve got some changes to make.

Paris Saint-Germain remind of the New York Knicks: loads of money, loads of talent, but failures in the team work department. They got Sammy Traore, Pauleta, E. Cisse, and Mikael Landreau, but what do they have to show for it? A fan riot at the UEFA Cup, dismal Ligue 1 performances, especially at the Parc des Princes, an easy road trip for many Ligue 1 sides, and troublesome crowds.
Then, I find it very unusual that former PSG player Vikash Dhorasoo is suddenly kicked out and demoted to the reserve team after having a successful season last year. I don’t think stuff like that happens out of nowhere, and I think the chaotic nature of this club will hurt them unless they don’t get rid of Lacombe and Cayzac.
I like PSG and how they are a symbol of French soccer, but this is not good press. They need to fix this, and fast.

I just like the mention of the Knicks on a French football blog as the universal symbol of suck — soon everyone will know our pain, Mark. I hope for the PSG’s sake that their gaffer isn’t as blindly delusional as Isiah.
