Some Ligue 1 Briefs To Nibble On
By: Sam | May 3rd, 2007
-Marseille and Sochaux are in talks before facing each other next Saturday in the final of the Coupe de France, as rumours have Karim Ziani heading to Marseille to replace Ribéry, if he were to leave this summer.
-AS Roma have contacted Lille to inform them of their fondness for Peter Odemwingie. LOSC is asking for 9 million euros for the Nigerian international, who’s only scored five goals this season.
-Rennes, aka Sweden, which has been the home of Kim Kallström, Erik Edman and Andreas Isaksson in the past year, have agreed to terms with Heerenveen’s Peter Hansson.
-Barthez just won’t stop. He told France Info that he’d like to play for another two or three years. Quite while you’re only behind by six billion miles, I say.
-Auxerre’s youth international Bacary Sagna really wants to leave his club. He’s evoked England, Spain, Italy and lots of French clubs. Desperate much?

Your photo made me laugh and turned my stomach. All at the same time.
Isn’t that the ultimate goal of any blogger?

Karim Ziani scares me anytime he plays. He was a beast during the Lyon-Sochaux match that ended 3-3. He terrorized the flanks and gave Reveillere serious heart palpitations. He isn’t as scary as Ribery, in terms of his playing and his face, but he certainly has potential. It would be a good move for Marseille.
As for Odemwingie, I think he might turn out to be too expensive for Roma at nine million. Roma are having serious financial woes (sponsor problems, kit sponsor not renewing), and apart from Totti’s salary, they can’t afford to offer any (new) contracts in excess of 3 million a year and probably want to cut other higher salaries off the payroll so that they can renew some key players’ contracts. This might mean letting go of players like Mancini and to replace them with cheaper options.
As it is, Roma might not even be able to sign Christian Wilhelmsson permanently either (though he doesn’t want to return to Nantes). So unless Lille lowers the price, I don’t think Odemwingie will be heading to Italy.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at Portsmouth or Everton. In sporting terms, they are not as good as Lille, though they would offer him more money (for sure).

Yeah, I can’t see Odemwingie in the Champions League next year, he started off really strong and now he’s only scored like one goal in the last 25 games or something like that. I think it’s in everyone’s best interests that he stays at least one more year in Lille.
