The rumours begin, and they are glorious. Get this: Drogba wants to come back to Ligue 1
By: Sam | April 1st, 2007
Didier Drogba must be homesick. Not only is being the top scorer in the Prem not enough, he wants to go back to where he was discovered. That being France, preferably Marseille, the last club he graced before heading for London. Now, I think this is nuts, but there’s so much wrong with all this.
First of all, France is not the best league. There’s England, Italy, Spain. Germany is also good, and France is not without its charms. But Ligue 1 accomodating the likes of him while he’s in his prime? That’s quite something.
Also, no one will be able to afford him! I guess if Marseille go and sell Ribéry and Nasri with hefty price tags it’ll ease their chances, but still, Chelsea won’t be wanting to let him go away for a pound or two, especially if he keeps up his scoring pace and wins the Ballon d’Or. How is anyone going to go about that? Lyon will want him as well, but even they’d have trouble, given their early exit in the Champions League this year.
Now that you’ve clicked on “Read the rest of this entry”, you’re either smirking or intigued. If it’s the former, good job (but come on, it’s obvious). If it’s the latter, give yourself a slap in the face, it’s an April fool’s joke, of course. Drogba back in Marseille? Not anytime soon, although he did like it there.
