Transfer Time: …And we’re done.

By: Sam | January 31st, 2007

piquionneasm.jpgWhat an, um, exciting transfer month! Meh. Well actually, I suppose it wasn’t that bad. The last day of January surprised me and a few million people, with inter-country trades and transfers hitting fever pitch in the last few hours of the day. Here’s a rundown.

Frédéric Piquionne, slave, was transferred to le Rocher, meaning Monaco. After pouting about his situation at Saint-Étienne, and mumbling about wanting to join a prominent club and play in the Champions League, logic obliged him to sign at Monaco, who averages about a dozen fans a game, and sits at 14th in Ligue 1 at this moment. Good job, dude.

Lens, in what seems to me to be a momentary lapse in brain activity, rid themselves of two of their best strikers, even though they are right now in the frantic race for second place, currently in third. Their Brazilian Jussiê was loaned for six months to Bordeaux, and they pulled the ol’ swap with Rennes, exchanging Olivier Thomert for the Bretons’ Olivier Monterrubio.

Vikash Dhorasoo, everyone’s favourite scruffy, whining amateur movie director cum mediocre midfielder, has alledgedly signed with Italian outfit Parma. No monetary terms have been disclosed to my knowledge, but one thing is sure, and that is that Parma are going to suffer. Suffer, I tell you!

Sochaux, hot off a very impressive cup win over Monaco, got a bargain deal, as they borrowed Sébastien Grax from Monaco and Fousseni Diawara from Saint-Étienne, both for a period of six months.

Pegguy Luyindula, former Bleu and current journeyman, was signed by Paris Saint-Germain today. His obvious talent and yet frustratingly dismal numbers took him from Lyon to Marseille, where he was loaned to the Spaniards of Levante. Paris-SG will hope to be the recipients of his better side.

OGC Nice was in the middle of goalkeeper things, as they welcomed former PSG Lionel Letizi from Rangers (the third Frenchman to leave the said club in the last two weeks) and bade farewell to Damien Gregorini, who jumped on the AS Nancy-Lorraine wagon.
