Goal of the Week: Round 5

By: Sam | August 28th, 2007

Le Mans are kickin’ it FIFA Street-style. After having Grafite run away with the award for his backheel last week, I think I know who’s going to win this week, but that’s up to you. Here, in order of shirt number, are the three candidates for Goal of the Week this time around.

MAMADOU NIANG (Marseille) made Caen look quite stupid when he gave a lesson on Patience 101.

OLIVIER THOMERT (Rennes) did well to finish this great, great team effort with a strike just as good.

DAISUKE MATSUI (Le Mans) jumped, flicked the ball from behind his leg, and just basically looked like a Ninja Turtle here.

Final results:
Mamadou Niang 0%

Olivier Thomert 10%

Daisuke Matsui 90%

No contest. Even if I love Rennes to bits. Matsui’s airborne “Madjer” was perfect for goal of the week. Pity it wasn’t a winning goal, though…

Is this even fair, Matsui’s goal is already goal of the year

Yeah, well, for fun’s sake I still have to post the other two. But if anyone votes for Thomert or Niang, I’ll hunt them down.

Thomert has recieved two votes… And it wasn’t me.

The only “cool” thing about Thomert’s goal was that it came after 7-8 passes, and nifty work by Briand and Leroy.

But Matsui’s came after a 70-yard dash from his own half, a one-two with the winger (well, not exactly, but you can see what I mean) and then… That crazy goal.

I like the attitude/coolness by Niang when he scored that goal, but I voted for Matsui anyway.:-)

Well one of Thomert’s votes was from a friend of mine who did it just to piss me off :D

I’m still voting for Lille’s goal off a corner. In fact, you can mark me down for that one all year long.
