Ribéry wants you to know that he likes Marseille, he just really wants to play in the Champions League
By: Sam | April 6th, 2007
Olympique de Marseille is in eighth place right now, with eight games remaining in the Ligue 1 season. You may just know that’s not enough to make the UEFA Champions League. However, you musn’t write OM off for European football next year. The race at the top (well, excluding first place) is ridiculously tight, and a win here and a loss there could be enough to put pretty much anyone into the top 5.
Cut to: Franck Ribéry, last year’s holy-crap phenomenon, this year’s injury-plagued dissapointment. He likes the city he plays in, he likes his teammates, his coach, he swears, he really does. But he wants to play in the Champions League soooooo bad. So bad, he’s ready to skip town if his current club falls short of the goal.
Said Scarface (translated from French): I want to play in the Champions League. It’s a personal goal, a priority. I pray God that I get that spot with Marseille. If it’s not the case, I’m leaving!
Plain and simple. An earlier rumour this week had Ribéry offered to Arsenal for an estimated 20 million euros. If you ask me, Marseille won’t go arse over tit to keep him. He’s been out with injuries twice, and even when he was on the pitch, he’s been less than spectacular. Nasri’s their priority right now.

I used to be really glad that Ribery plays for Marseille. It really strengthens the league when you have players of such caliber spreading their talent around. But Ribery has been so desperate to leave (he reminds me of Michael Essien, actually) that there’s no point in Marseille keeping him.
So they should do the next best thing - get as much money out of his transfer as possible. They will never sell him to Lyon, at least not over Pape Diouf’s dead body, but Real Madrid and Arsenal would be great options. And it would certainly benefit Ribery to be surrounded by world class players.

i think that ribery is one of the most hard working world class players, and he proved that in the world cup. he is a great ball player, and putting him in the champions league would realy make him a better player.
