Représente ta ligue: Lens Play in Switzerland. Match Ends in a Draw, of Course
By: Sam | August 16th, 2007
In typical French fashion, le Racing Club de Lens drew in the first leg of the UEFA Cup second qualifying round, with Olivier Monterrubio canceling out Tiago’s opener, five minutes after the fact. It appears as though Lens dominated for the most part, especially in the first half, but it has to be said that Vedran Runje saved Lens’ skin by pushing away Daniel João Paulo’s penalty kick early in the second frame.
Lens is in good position to take the fixture in the second leg, 30 August at Felix-Bollaert.
For more on this and the other matches in the round, check out the UEFA Cup blog’s recap.
I’ll have highlights as soon as I can.

Terribly boring game. Basel seemed more at ease both technically and tactically, but lacked percussion when facing Lens’ back 5 (literally).
Lens’ attack was very disorganised, but they could have got a better result because Basel didn’t seem very willing to run…

Good points: I didn’t see the match but that’s Lens for ya… By the way they were playing against Berne, not Basel.
